April Ross
April Ross is only one of the few beach volleyball players who have earned medals more than once at an Olympics. Alix Klineman is a new Olympian and will join her in Tokyo. Ross will also be hoping for her very first Olympic gold. The next opportunity she gets to do so at the age of 39. Her optimism is that she will be able to win top awards. Ross stated via NBC Boston: "If we do our best and even playing well, I think we could win the gold medal." Additionally, I'm going be relying on a little bit of luck. Ross was born August 22, 1982, at Costa Mesa California. She lived there with her family. Her athletic career continued at Newport Harbor High School where she played in a variety of activities. While a prep student she was a participant in the indoor game of volleyball, as well as basketball as well as running track. She was definitely the best player in indoor volleyball. When she played in her high school volleyball career as per her college bio, she was an outside-hitter, middle blocker and setter. She was named one of the Gatorade National Circle of Champions Player of the year in 1999, for her performance. The year 2000 was the time she was awarded the Orange County Athlete of the Year award in volleyball. Ross and Klineman started their partnership in 2017, but Ross had been a beach-scene player for years prior to. The fact is, she's been a winner of numerous major tournaments and one partner was an all-star volleyball player. Jennifer Kessy coached her from 2007 to 2013. Kessy was Ross's partner on the 2009 World Championships. The duo took silver in London's Olympic Games. They were defeated for the gold by the legendary team of Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh (Jennings). Ross became Walsh Jennings new partner after May-Treanor's resignation. They went on to compete for the bronze beach volleyball medal at the Rio Olympics in 2016 along with Walsh Jennings. Ross participated in the Trojans at USC during her college after graduating from high school. And her run at the school was one to remember. When she was a freshman at the school in 2000 she played her way to Pac-10 as well as NCAA The Freshman of the Year awards and was also an All-American. The Trojans could also get to the Final Four with her help. In her sophomore year, she suffered a tremendous personal loss but still managed to be a second All-American. In her two final years with the Trojans they helped achieve consecutive championships. In 2003-2004, Ross was named as the most successful collegiate female volleyball player in America according to the Honda Sports Award. Ross was a USC international relations student, was a renowned volleyball player. Margie Ross, Ross' mother, was never given the privilege of watching her daughter become an international beach volleyball star. When Ross was a sophomore in USC her mother passed away due to breast cancer. Ross holds her mother very dearly. Margie is a constant source of inspiration for her, both in and out of the water.
