Despacito, a song by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi along with Daddy Yankee was released in the year. It became the most one music streamed at the time within six month. The song is a blend of reggaeton and pop did not only bring attention for reggaeton, it also brought attention to Latin music more generally. In 2015 there were two songs that were predominantly Spanish-language on Billboard's Top 100 and in 2016 there were four. In the midst of Despacito's popularity in 2017 however 19 predominantly Spanish songs made it to the Top 100 for 2020. there were 41 of them. Justin Bieber's bilingual version of Despacito was released in the year. Then, popular musicians began collaborating with reggaeton performers. Drake collaborated with Bad Bunny in the project MIA MIA (2018) as well as Madonna collaborated with Maluma on Medellin. In the year 2020, some Reggaeton stars were dissatisfied with its direction toward mainstream. However, a younger generation Rauw Alejandro, was keen to maintain the development. It often utilized elements of electronic dance music along with other styles.
